<< Last week’s software sales chart

The week after the holidays is when sales drop across the board, and that’s what happened in Japan last week. Everything—hardware and software—dropped, and the top-20 sales chart comprised primarily of the strongest recent releases.

Being the current craze in Japan, Animal Crossing: New Leaf held on to its #1 spot, with another 83,000 copies sold. Following it was New Super Mario Bros. 2 at the #2 spot, with less then 22,000 copies moved during the week. Also worth noting are Yakuza 5 sales, which are at nearly 555,000 now.

Meanwhile, Level 5’s Fantasy Life dropped out of the top-20 entirely, although Konami’s Magician’s Quest: Town of Magic managed to hang on at the #15 position. Finally, barely making it into the top-20 was Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney. This is probably the last time we’ll be seeing the game in the top-20 chart, so bid adieu to it while you can.

Finally, it bears mentioning that Run for Money Tousouchuu has blasted past Namco Bandai’s expectations. Namco expected Run for Money to sell 300,000 copies by the end of March. It’s currently already at 387,000 copies sold.

On the hardware front, Nintendo 3DS sales stabilized, while Wii U and Vita sales dropped. Wii U sales will likely remain low until Nintendo release more significant software for the system.
