Last week, Level 5 released The Little Battlers Wars for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. The game sold 50,217 copies in its first week on shelves, which isn’t a fantastic figure and is relatively low when compared to previous releases in the series. Below are first-week sales for previous Little Battlers titles:
The Little Battlers – 166,187
The Little Battlers W – 77,457
The Little Battlers: Explosive Boost – 54,354
The Little Battlers W: Super Custom – 27,242
That said, something that bears mentioning is that The Little Battlers Wars is of a completely different genre than the games before it. While the previous games were more along the lines of RPGs, Wars is a real-time strategy game with third-person action elements. That’s quite the shift from what fans are used to.
It should be interesting to see how sales of the game hold up over time, as a lot of Level 5’s games tend to sell rather well over extended periods of time, with Fantasy Life and Youkai Watch being just two recent examples. Especially with the lucrative holiday season coming up, we expect that we haven’t seen the last of The Little Battlers Wars by a long shot.
Wii U sales saw a boost for the week as well, as Nintendo released Wii U Party in Japan, as well as a Wii U bundle containing both Wii U Party and New Super Mario Bros. U. While sales were up for the week, it’s too soon to say how things will look for Wii U in the long term. Just as with the Vita, Wii U sales will need to be observed over time to see how the two devices hold up.
