Last week, Namco Bandai released God Eater 2 for the PlayStation Vita and PSP in Japan. The game sold 266,326 copies on the Vita and another 112,024 copies on PSP, bringing total first-week sales to nearly 380,000. Here’s how that compares to past God Eater launches:

God Eater – 295,405

God Eater Burst – 263,150

That puts God Eater 2 a good bit ahead of the first game and its updated release. A good showing on Namco’s part. It should be interesting to watch how the game sells over the next few months, and if it can achieve the same long-term sales as its predecessor.

Meanwhile, PlayStation Vita sales saw a boost for the week, too, but perhaps not by as much as one would have expected. Alongside God Eater 2, Sony released the PlayStation Vita TV, and the combined launches of both products brought total Vita sales to about 90,000 units for the week. A good week for the Vita, but a little concerning for the system’s long-term sales, when one considers that God Eater 2 is likely to be the most high-profile Vita game for the foreseeable future.

Also released last week was the subtitled version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, which debuted at an impressive 200,000 copies between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
