Last week saw the release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U in Japan. The game sold 227,527 copies in its first week—not a great figure for a game like Smash, but not an unsurprising one either, given that the Nintendo 3DS version of the game was recently released, and on a more popular platform that is also more suited to Japan’s preference for portable gaming.

Meanwhile, Kadokawa Games released Derby Stallion Gold, the latest in the horse-racing and business-simulation series, for the Nintendo 3DS. It sold 73,616 copies in its first week. Also on 3DS, Bandai Namco’s Aikatsu! 365 Idol Days sold 33,151 copies. Both games target a relatively mainstream audience and should be interesting to watch in the weeks ahead.

Meanwhile, Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear Xrd –Sign- was also released in Japan last week, and between its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions, sold 39,916 copies.

Finally, Spike Chunsoft released an updated version of their Nintendo 3DS Attack on Titan game, titled Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind CHAIN. The game sold 19,073 copies upon launch, but Spike are also making the update available to existing Attack on Titan owners as paid DLC, which would obviously affect retail sales.
