<< How to read and understand sales

Last week in Japan saw a relatively quiet week of sales, which is normal for this time of year at the second week after the holiday season, where video game sales plummet. Media Create has updated with a look at software and hardware sales for the week of January 4 through January 10, 2016.

Continuing on from last week, Japan didn’t have any new video game releases, and most of the titles from the top-20 sellers of the week didn’t actually change positions that much.

Monster Hunter X still leads the list, even though it sold less than half of what it did last week with 65,227 units sold, and to put it into perspective, these numbers would’ve barely cracked the top-10 during the busiest week last month. Nonetheless, it has a lead on Monster Strike at #2 (38,795 units) by quite a margin, followed by Splatoon at #3 (29,945 units).

Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition was selling less than 10k a week in the month of November and has picked up considerably since December, when it saw 62,356 units sold at its peak during the last week of the month. Since then, it has continued to do pretty well, sticking in the top-10 of the list for about a month now.

With 607,878 units of total sales for Minecraft on PS Vita, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of effect it’ll bring to Dragon Quest Builders when it releases on January 28 in Japan. We can also look forward to seeing how well Yakuza Kiwami sells when it releases the week before on January 21, 2016.
