Last week, Japan saw an eventful week with several big releases with KanColle Kai, Attack on Titan, Street Fighter V, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, and Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna. Media Create provides us with the latest video game software and hardware sales data for the week of February 15th through February 21st, 2016.

With many key titles released last week, they managed to grab the top 8 spots with nothing but new titles, which is a feat that won’t likely happen again this year. KanColle Kai, the PlayStation Vita game based on the immensely popular browser game, Kantai Collection.

Given the series’ popularity, it isn’t surprising to see KanColle Kai take the #1 spot with 140,757 units sold on its debut week, already making it a hit-seller for Kadokawa Games.

Following is Attack on Titan, which sold 62,111 copies on PlayStation Vita for #2, 61,156 copies on PlayStation 4 at #03, and 27,415 copies on PlayStation 3 at #8, for a total of 150,682 units across all three platforms for its opening week, which should be considered pretty good numbers for the popular series.

At the #4 spot is Street Fighter V for PlayStation 4 with a total of 41,990 units sold for its first week. For any other title, it would be considered a success, but as far as it being a new main-numbered Street Fighter game, it has underperformed compared to its predecessor.

To give you an idea, Street Fighter IV released back in 2009, and it released on two consoles with 86,075 copies sold on PlayStation 3 and 37,782 copies for the Xbox 360, for a total of 123,857 units across both platforms for the game’s debut week. However, keep in mind that there was a lot more of a gap on in releases between Street Fighter III and Street Fighter IV, so at the time it was a much bigger deal compared to what we had between IV and V with Ultra Street Fighter IV having released just less than two years prior. That said, Street Fighter V’s numbers are still on the much lower side for one of the most popular fighting game franchises in Japan.

Next up, we have Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games at the #5 spot with 41,736 copies for its debut week, once again showing that Japan also loves their Mario games.

Last but not least, Square Enix’s throwback RPG, Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna, took the #6 and #7 spots, with 33,629 copies sold for PlayStation 4 and 27,994 copies on PlayStation Vita for a total of 61,623 units sold across both platforms, so that’s not bad for a new IP. I thought it was pretty interesting to seethe PS4 version top its handheld counterpart by almost 6k units, when Vita versions of games usually start out with the better numbers. Perhaps the title’s old school appeal had an effect on it for the buyers.
