Last week, Japan had two major releases with the launch of Aquaplus’ tactical RPG visual novel, Utawarerumono: The Two Hakuoro, along with the latest One Piece title in One Piece: Grand Pirate Colosseum. Here’s the latest from sales tracker Media Create’s weekly data on software and hardware that sold in the week of September 12 through September 18, 2016.

While many of us thought that Persona 5 would sit on the #1 spot for weeks or more, it only lasted one week until it was dethroned by Aquaplus’ tactical title, Utawarerumono: The Two Hakuoro. The game took #1 with 47,363 copies sold on PS Vita, #3 with 38,507 copies on PS4, and #7 with 11,248 units on PS3 for a combined total of 97,118 copies in its debut across the PlayStation platforms.

Aquaplus announced that the game had topped 130,000 in total sales on its first day of release, which also includes the digital sales that aren’t tracked by Media Create. Aquaplus president Naoya Shimokawa also added that The Two Hakuoro also sold more in five days than what The False Mask did in a year. The previous title, Utawarerumono: False Mask sold a total of 55,580 copies in its debut (26,252 on PS Vita, 18,635 on PS4, and 10,693 on PS3) so it is definitely enjoyed quite the rise.

Meanwhile, Persona 5 barely missed the #1 position by just a couple thousand, with 45,178 units sold in its second week on PS4 for #2, along with another 14,771 sold on PS3 for #6.

The only other new title to release in Japan was One Piece: Grand Pirate Colosseum which charted at #9 with 9,097 copies sold in its debut for Nintendo 3DS. This is quite the drop from the franchise’s previous 3DS title, One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X which sold 35,098 copies in its debut back in November 2014.

Super Grand Battle! X was developed by Ganbarion, makers of the Jump Super Stars games, and it featured a similar style to go with it. On the other hand, Grand Pirate Colosseum has more of a fighting game vibe to it similar to Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden, which was also developed by the same developers, Arc System Works. Party-style games with plenty of characters do tend to reach a wider audience compared to their more traditional fighter counterparts in Japan, but Grand Pirate Colosseum’s numbers are still on the lower end for anything with the One Piece brand attached to it, nonetheless.

As far as hardware sales go, most of it remained the same except for PlayStation 4 which dropped from 96,433 to 49,652, which is understandable seeing how there was a lack of stock for about a month prior, and a bunch of those were likely pre-orders for Persona 5 as well.
