Last week, Japan had a pretty busy Christmas week in sales with strong performances from many of its top titles. New titles include Momotaro Dentetsu 2017 and Osomatsu-san: Matsu Matsuri! Here’s the latest from Japanese sales tracker, Media Create, with a look at software and hardware sales from the week of December 19 through December 25, 2016.

On top is Pokémon Sun & Moon with 279,436 units sold in the week, putting it at a total of 2,858,396 copies sold in life-to-date sales, putting it at #1 after leap-frogging last week’s number 1 in Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki.

Not only did Pokémon win the battle of the end of 2017 against Yo-kai Watch, but so did Super Mario Marker for Nintendo 3DS, which reclaimed its #2 position right below Pokémon Sun & Moon after selling 269,368 copies in the week. As for Level-5’s giant, it placed #3 with 174,180 copies sold.

Japan had two new titles in Momotaro Dentetsu 2017: Tachiagare Nippon!! for Nintendo 3DS. It placed #4 with 132,875 copies sold since its release on December 22, which probably worked out pretty nicely in its favor seeing that the party game is often a good choice for little holiday or New Year get-togethers with family and friends.

The other new title is Osomatsu-san: Matsu Matsuri! with 16,911 units sold on Nintendo 3DS to place it at #14 in the week. It’s also worth noting that Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition saw excellent sales for the holidays with 51,723 units sold to put it at #5, and also making it finally surpass the 1 million milestone with its total of 1,018,699.

On the hardware front, the New Nintendo 3DS LL sold very well with 111,513 units sold for the Christmas week, almost 30k more than its 84,823 the week prior. The PlayStation 4 also enjoyed strong Christmas sales with 90,140 units sold plus an additional 10,098 for the PlayStation 4 Pro for a total of 100,238 units sold between the two models. Overall, hardware saw more sales as expected for the holiday week.
