Last week, Japan had a busy one with the top six spots being occupied by new titles including big titles like Gran Turismo Sport, City Shrouded in Shadow, The Evil Within 2, Fortune Street: Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary, and Uta no Prince-sama: Amazing Aria & Sweet Serenade LOVE. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest software and hardware sales data from the week of October 16 through October 22, 2017.

At the #1 spot of the week is Gran Turismo Sport with a whopping 150,286 units sold on the PlayStation 4. It may not be as big as the debut of Gran Turismo 6 that opened with 204,784 units sold on PS3 back in December 2013, butconsidering today’s market and the release of Gran Turismo 6 that later in the PS3’s lifespan, it sounds about right.

Next up at #2 we have City Shrouded in Shadow which debuted with 48,935 units sold on PlayStation 4, which is more than what most expected considering it’s a completely new title by the creator of the Disaster Report series. Kaiju and drama will always have a spot in the Japanese market, especially when they’re combined as one.

The Evil Within 2 debuted at #3 with 42,941 units sold on the PlayStation 4. The previous entry sold a good amount more with 59,204 units sold on the PS4, plus an additional 59,388 on PS3 and 2,419 on Xbox 360 for a total of 121,011 back in October 2014. Considering the PS4 was no more than 8 months old at the time of the release of The Evil Within in Japan, it doesn’t look good for the sequel that sold 16,000 copies less on a console that’s already been out for more than three years there.

#4 on and #6 of the list goes to Fortune Street: Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary on the PS4 with 42,092 units sold and on the PS Vita with 18,784 units sold for a combined total of 60,876. The last entry was Fortune Street on the Wii which debuted with 27,640 units back in December 2011, so that’s a nice upgrade for the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy party mix.

Other new titles of the week includes Uta no Prince-sama: Amazing Aria & Sweet Serenade LOVE which debuted at #5 with 19,904 units sold on the PS Vita, and the Nintendo Switch version of NBA 2K18 which charted at #19 with 2,689 units sold.

The biggest bump in hardware sales goes to the PlayStation 4, which went from 16,933 units sold the week prior to 25,075 units sold last week. Most of the credit goes to Gran Turismo Sport, but it also helped that the top-4 titles of the week were all PS4 games, so we’ll call it a group effort to bring it up. However, despite a drop of almost 10k, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware of the week with 31,092 units sold. This puts the Nintendo Switch’s total sales in Japan at 1,893,282 units sold since its launch in March, going by Media Create’s numbers.
