Last week, Japan finally got Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle for the Nintendo Switch as well as other new releases in Gintama Rumble on PS4 and PS Vita, and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest software and hardware sales data from the week of January 15 through January 21, 2018.

The #1 best selling title of the week goes to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, which debuted with 66,692 units sold on the Nintendo Switch. Raving Rabbids aren’t nearly as popular in Japan as they were in the West at the time of its release, but it should be interesting to see how it hangs in there along with the other best-sellers on Switch in Japan.

Gintama Rumble impressed in its debut taking the #2 spot with 38,443 units sold on PS4 and the #5 spot with 23,417 units sold on the PS Vita for a total of 61,860 units sold between the two. These are pretty good numbers for any anime action game, and it shows that fans of the series have waited a good while for Gintama to get its first full fledged game.

At #3 we have Splatoon 2 with 28,691 units sold on Nintendo Switch followed by another Switch game in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which sold 26,365 units to chart at #4. As far as other new titles go we have Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition at #12 with 7,908 units sold on PS4. Don’t forget that the game is available as a free downloadable update for owners of the original Street Fighter V, so these numbers come from those who are getting a new standalone retail version of the game. And lastly, a lower-priced version of Valkyria Chronicles Remastered debuted at #19 with 3,346 units sold on PS4.

Onto the hardware front, the PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro consoles continue selling well with 37,572 and 13,935 units sold, respectively. The top-selling console of the week goes to the Nintendo Switch with 43,027 units, which now officially puts it past the 3.5 million marker in Japan  with a total of 3,537,881 units sold since its launch in March 2017, going by Media Create’s numbers. I should also note that the Xbox One X saw the biggest increase in percentage from the week prior. This is thanks to new stock that arrived in Japan, where its first batch was very limited.
