Last week, Japan saw three key releases in Girls und Panzer: Dream Tank Match, Metal Gear Survive, and Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal, all for PlayStation 4. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of February 19 through February 25, 2018.

Another week, another top spot finish for Monster Hunter: World, which charted at #1 for the fifth week straight with 53,982 units sold on PS4. Its updated total via retail sales is now at 1,890,273 units and getting closer to that 2 million retail sales milestone.

At #2 we have the first new title of the week, Girls und Panzer: Dream Tank Match with 46,411 units sold on PS4, which is actually pretty impressive for any anime-based game. We’ve seen more popular anime struggle to reach those numbers, so it looks like another win for Bandai Namco.

Konami’s Metal Gear Survive charted at #3 with 31,359 units sold on PS4. To give you an idea how it compares to the previous Metal Gear game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain debuted with 293,652 units sold on PS4 and 117,547 units sold on PS3 for a combined total of 411,199 in Japan. However, keep in mind that there are a lot of factors that go into Metal Gear Survive’s much lower number, for example it isn’t a main entry title and it wasn’t made by Hideo Kojima and his crew.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal sold 24,118 to chart at #4, which is about right for a Senran Kagura remake. We can expect to see more for the series when Marvelous eventually releases 7even.

At #5 we have Splatoon 2 with 19,501 units sold on Switch. The other big Switch titles followed with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #6 with 17,259 units, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at #7 with 12,252 units, and Super Mario Odyssey at #8 with 11,639 units sold in the week.

As far as other new releases go, Koei Tecmo’s otome game Harukanaru Toki no Naka de Ultimate charted at #10 with 8,833 units sold on PS Vita, and its boy band title Tokimeki Restaurant: Project Tristars charted at #16 with 4,319 units sold on PS Vita.

The Nintendo Switch is back to being the top-selling hardware after PlayStation 4 dominated for the past month after the release of Monster Hunter: World. The Switch sold 39,696 units in Japan, which now puts it at 3,756,550 units sold in Japan if we go by Media Create’s numbers. The PlayStation 4 sold 29,392 units and the PS4 Pro sold 5,383 units for a total of 34,775 units between the two.
