Sangokushi Taisen is a series of arcade strategy games that also had entries released on Nintendo DS and mobile devices. But while the arcade games also had Chinese language releases, most of the titles were available exclusively in Japanese and none of them had an English localization. Battle of the Three Kingdoms will mark a series first for officially including an English language option in addition to Japanese and Traditional Chinese.

Screenshots for the upcoming game suggest that players will be able to collect officer cards and place them on the playing field just like the arcade games. However, its official site hints that the battle gameplay will run “automatically.” While the arcade games let players control the officer units’ movements and ploys mid-battle, this new blockchain game might instead place an emphasis on the starting formations.

Yasuhiro Nishiyama, the original creator of Sangokushi Taisen who previously worked at Sega, will make his return as the producer of the new blockchain game. double jump.tokyo has also published two interview videos featuring Producer Nishiyama with English subtitles.

Kai Sangokushi Taisen -Battle of the Three Kingdoms- will be available for PC, Android, and iOS devices worldwide on March 25, 2025.
