Steam Next Fest 2025 is almost here, and likely already has arrived by the time you read this. As always, Steam is allowing developers to release demos for upcoming titles in 2025 and beyond. If you are a huge JRPG and RPG fan like me, you’ll be happy to know that some of the best Steam Next Fest 2025 demos fall in these categories.
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is by far my favorite demo of Steam Next Fest 2025. Honestly, this game in general is one of my most anticipated titles of this year so far. The creators of two of my favorite visual novel series — Danganronpa and Zero Escape — come together for a game that looks and sounds like Danganronpa, but plays like a tactical RPG.
While it is a little light on the killing game aspect, the characters are well worth checking out. Plus, your save data carries over to the full release.
Dragonkin: The Banished
This is an intriguing new action RPG in the vein of the Diablo series and Path of Exile 2 that is coming soon to early access. It is all about dragons with three different characters to choose from. I totally get paying money for an early access game, so this demo is one way to see how the game will shape up before plunging into paying for it.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
If you aren’t sure if you want to buy this latest Like a Dragon title, this is one way to check it out early. While not a full-on RPG in the usual sense, it still has an impressive selection of options from naval battles that would make Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag shake in its boots and the return of the classic brawler gameplay while allowing you to play as Goro Majima again.
