Can You Drop Items in Avowed?

In Avowed, carrying too much weight slows your character down to a crawl, causing you to instinctively reach for a ‘drop’ button — but does one exist? Are there, perhaps, better options than leaving your hard-earned items behind?

Surprisingly, it isn’t possible to drop items in Avowed. Instead, you have two much better options available to you at all times: Stash in Camp and Break Down. As well as selling items, provided there are willing merchants nearby.

If your items are weighing you down, the best thing to do is select the item in your inventory and then “Stash in Camp.” By default, the hotkey to stash an item is ‘R’ on a keyboard or ‘X’ on a controller. Doing this sends it straight to Party Stash, which you can access at any Camp.

Alternatively, you can break down weapons and armor into upgrade materials that don’t have weight. To break down an item, select it in your inventory and hold down ‘R’ on a keyboard or ‘X’ on an Xbox controller.

Assuming you’re not in a cave of spiders like I was when I was first over-encumbered, you can also sell items to vendors. It’s typically better to break down items (if possible) versus selling, but there are always exceptions. Consider whether or not the item you’re breaking down provides the materials you need for your chosen armor and weapons.

With the ability to stash or break down items at any time, it makes perfect sense why Avowed doesn’t feature the ability to drop items. Nothing you pick up ever goes to waste!

How to access the Party Stash

The Party Stash is a chest shared across all Camps in Avowed. To access a camp, select any tent iconand fast travel to it. Your camp will be set up and ready to go as soon as you arrive, allowing you to access your Stash, upgrade weapons and armor, enchant Uniques, and talk to your companions.

How to increase carry capacity in Avowed

Increasing your Might stat in Avowed increases how much you can carry without becoming over-encumbered. Various Unique items can also increase your carry capacity, so keep an eye out if you’re a fellow treasure goblin. Just remember to use your stash as much as possible, too!

Avowed is available on PC and Xbox Series X/S to purchase or play through Game Pass.
