How to Adjust Fields of Mistria In-Game Time

Fields of Mistria‘s time change feature gives you more control over the flow of your day, with two new settings that slow things down – sort of. Developer NPC Studio included the feature as part of the second major Fields of Mistria update, along with dozens of other improvements and additions, and the intent is to take the crunch out of each day. The time change feature ostensibly lets you adjust settings so each day takes longer, though the actual amount of time you gain may not be what you’re expecting.

How to Change Time in Fields of Mistria

You can change time in Fields of Mistria at any point during the day, though bear in mind that the effects won’t take place until the next day, after you sleep. To change time, open the main menu. Navigate to the settings tab – marked by a gear icon – and pick the “Accessibility” option. The first choice under that menu is “Day Time Speed.”

It’s set to standard-length days by default, and a standard day in Fields of Mistria lasts roughly 12 minutes in real-world time. You can adjust it to “longer” and “longest,” though Mistria doesn’t tell you how long each setting actually is. From our experiments, the “longest” setting adds roughly a minute or so to each day, which doesn’t seem like much. Every hour lasts a few seconds longer than normal as a result.

Considering an hour in Fields of Mistria is approximately 30-35 seconds of real-world time, though, it does make a small difference – just not as noticeable a difference as you might expect from a setting called “longest.”

What Time Length Setting is Best in Fields of Mistria?

The best time setting to use depends on what your goals are for a specific day. If you’re wanting to explore or spend a long time in the mines, set the time length to “longest” the day before. However, if you’re socializing, it’s definitely best to stick to the standard time length.

NPC Studio warns you when you select the time setting that altering it might have a negative influence on townspeople’s schedules. We didn’t notice any irregularities in our testing, but if they do exist, it could be a cumulative thing – for example, the longer you play with time stretched out, the more likely it might be for a bug to crop up.

If you’d rather not risk that and still want longer days, or if you need time to slow down even more, it might be best to look into installing the Time of Mistria mod. Time of Mistria lets you scale time from 500 percent faster than normal all the way down to stopping it completely. Early indications are that it works just fine with Fields of Mistria’s new update, though you need to toggle the in-game time setting to “standard” for it to work.

And if mods aren’t your thing, the next best choice is making extensive use of Fields of Mistria‘s new teleportation devices. These let you instantly warp from the mine to your farm or to the new Deep Woods biome.
