Hello Kitty Island Adventure staggers progress across quests, item availability, and real-world time. As you make friends with the colorful cast of Sanrio characters inhabiting the island, you’ll gain access to new areas and new ways of exploring! In the meantime, however, you’re going to notice the various ways Hello Kitty Island Adventure prevents you from reaching these places before you’ve unlocked them. Those giant rocks you keep finding scattered across the island? A rather direct way of blocking progress. Don’t worry- breaking these obstacles is only a matter of time, accelerated with a few quick tips. Here’s where and how to break rocks in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

How to Break Rocks in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

In order to break rocks in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, you’re going to need to get yourself the Pickaxe. The crafting recipe for the Pickaxe is obtained by completing the “Reviving the Oasis” quest. This is easier said than done, as this quest has quite a few prerequisites you’ll need to complete before it becomes available. Here’s a list of the major requirements to unlock “Reviving the Oasis:”

• Reach Friendship Level 11 with My Melody
• Reach Friendship Level 4 with Pompompurin and complete the “Dessert-ed Boat” quest.
• Complete the “Parched” quest. This quest unlocks after completing “Dessert-ed Boat.”

To begin the quest, Keroppi will relocate to Gemstone Mountain. If Keroppi isn’t there, make sure you don’t have a different quest involving him currently active. If you do, you’ll have to complete whatever quest it is before he heads over to the quest location. Speak to Keroppi, who will want to investigate the area around the oasis. My Melody will join the two of you in your investigation, and together you’ll head over to a large rock embedded in the side of the mountain. From here, you’ll head into the Crystal Caves to discover more rocks blocking several waterways. You’ll also find Chococat, who will give you the crafting recipe for the Pickaxe.

You need ten pieces of Woodblock and 3 Ingots to make the Pickaxe. Woodblocks can be made at the Crafting Station with five Sticks or seven Coconuts each. It might be useful to know Where to Find Sticks in Hello Kitty Island Adventureif you’re short on the materials. You can craft Ingots using Iron. Mount Hothead will provide you with the Iron. Conveniently, you can also find Iron inside the Crystal Caves themselves! It takes three Iron to make one Ingot, but you can only find seven Iron a day. As such, this quest might take you multiple days to complete unless you have an Island Bouquet in your inventory. Once you have the materials you need, craft your Pickaxe. Congratulations!

Where to Break Rocks in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

You can now smash open rocks! These rocks are sometimes hiding treasure chests underneath. Once you have the Pickaxe, the rest of the “Revive the Oasis” quest will require you to break your first set of rocks! After the quest is over, the Oasis will flood with water, creating a large waterfall South of the Dessert Boat, which is now floating near the Oasis’ center. To the left of this waterfall is the first rock you can smash open with the Pickaxe! This rock reveals a treasure chest containing the crafting plans for the Rocky Music Box. Another chest is in Gemstone Town, between the double arches marking the ramps up to Visitor Cabins two and three. Yet another one of these rocks is resting at the bottom of the Rainbow Reef inside the Kelp Maze.

Some rocks are immune to the Pickaxe. They’re tied to specific quests. For example, the rock blocking access to Merry Meadow requires you to follow the steps of the associated quest to break it open. Breaking a chest will remove them from the game after they’ve been opened. If you don’t like seeing all those open boxes littering the island, use your pickaxe to whittle them down!
