Where to Catch Yak T’el Catfish in FFXIV

You can catch the Yak T’el Catfish all over the Yak T’el area in Dawntrail. It is one of the most common fish you can find in this area, which is great for those who are looking to get it. That said, there are always going to be some places where it feels a bit more common and is just purely convenient.

The place, in particular, I prefer to fish for Yak T’el Catfish is around Sapsweet Cenote at X: 34.3, Y: 30.3 in Yak T’el. You can easily fast travel here by using the Mamook Aetheryte. I recommend being at least level 95 Fisher to be able to catch this fish, though 96 or higher is going to make it even easier.

What to Use Yak T’el Catfish for

Once you have the Yak T’el Catfish in your possession, there are only a few options for what to do with it in FFXIV. You can desynthesize it for materials as a Culinarian. Alternatively, you can go ahead and sell it on the Market Board. You can even print the fish on a medium canvas to show off if you’d like.

However, the most alluring use for the Yak T’el Catfish comes from using it to get another fish. The Welkin Catfish is much rarer and more valuable overall. What you want to do is reel in a Yak T’el Catfish. Once you do this, you then need to Surface Slap it. This will allow you to nearly guarantee a Welkin Catfish after that.

Final Fantasy XIV is available right now for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
