How to Earn The “Play Dead” Achievement in Avowed

To earn the “Play Dead” Achievement in Avowed, you need to wear Necropants and a Revenant Bell Collar at the same time. It sounds simple enough, but both items are Unique and can only be obtained once per playthrough. I hope you didn’t break them down already!

Where to find the Revenant Bell Collar (Retirement Plan Achievement)

To get the Revenant Bell Collar in Avowed, you must offer your “future corpse” to Elia at Elia’s Revenant Farm in Emerald Stair. You’ve sadly missed out on the Revenant Bell Collar and “Play Dead” Achievement if you’ve already talked to Elia without selecting this option (like I did).

Walk up to Elia and pick up the Blighted Crop from inside the revenant in front of her (yes, inside). Speak to Elia and select the following dialogue options:

  1. What happened here?
  2. Do they work for free?
  3. I already did. Looks like Beatrice ate some spoiled crops.
  4. Where do all of these corpses come from, anyway?
  5. Would you be interested in buying my future corpse?

Elia gives you the Revenant Bell Collar as thanks for donating your corpse to her cause. How lovely. Choosing this option also awards you the “Retirement Plan” Achievement. Not bad — you came here to earn one Achievement and will end up leaving with two!

If you’re locked out of speaking to Elia, you will need to start another save to earn both “Retirement Plan” and “Play Dead.” Unless you already have an old save from before you talked to Elia handy, that is. I certainly didn’t.

Where to find Necropants in Avowed

The Necropants are located near Tago’s Tower within Shatterscarp, the third zone in Avowed. Head to Tago Tower’s Beacon in the northeast, marked on the map above. Make sure to bring three lockpicks!

From Tago’s Tower Beacon, head a few steps north to a small toppled pillar and use it to climb to the ruined tower above.

Once up, walk forward and turn left to find a chest around the corner. Use a lockpick on the chest to loot the Necropants and some crafting materials.

Since armor in Avowed consists of a single slot, the Necropants are literally a pair of paints, causing your character to become topless when equipped. They also (cosmetically) override any boots you’re wearing for a delightful blue-toe look.

Necropants — Medium Armor, Unique

Note: Some stats below may vary depending on various factors, such as specific chosen Abilities.

  • 15% Damage Reduction
  • 39~ Additional Damage Reduction
  • -25 Maximum Stamina
  • -35 Maximum Essence
  • Spectral Slave: Summons a Spectre to fight with you
  • Poison-Proofed: +30% resistance to Poison Accumulation.

Once you have the Necropants and Revenant Bell Collar, equip both of them through your Inventory to earn the “Play Dead” Achievement! For another missable Avowed Achievement, check out our guide on how to earn “Get in the Statue, Envoy.”
