Hello Kitty Island Adventure features a wonderful cast of familiar faces from the Hello Kitty universe. Beyond the staple roster of key figures you’ll interact with in order to gain access to more features and areas, you can also be visited by many other famous Sanrio characters. These Visitors, such as Dear Daniel or Mimmy, are usually adjacent or related to one of the main cast. By decorating the Visitor Cabins they can stay in, you can persuade them to stay as permanent residents! However, count the number of Visitor Cabins and compare it to the number of potential visitors available. You’ll notice there aren’t enough cabins to house everyone in homes they’ll be happy with. Unless you upgrade your cabins, you’ll be unable to keep all your visitors on the island. Here’s how to expand visitor cabins in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

How to Expand Visitor Cabins in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

If you’re just starting out in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, it’s going to be a while before you can start expanding Visitor Cabins. Somewhat of a mid-to-late game feature, cabin expansion is a quest reward at the end of a laundry list of prerequisites and considerable real-world time. In order to unlock Visitor Cabin upgrades, you will need to have done the following:

• Reach Friendship Level 11 with My Melody.
• Reach Friendship Level 4 with Pompompurin and unlock the Dessert Machine.
• Reach Friendship Level 2 with Keroppi and unlock the Soda Machine.
• Complete the “Revive the Oasis” quest under the “Island Mystery” quest category.
• Achieve a 1-Star Visitor Rating with Dear Daniel.
• Complete Tuxedosam’s and Hello Kitty’s Friendship Level 1 quests.
• Claim a visitor cabin as your personal home by completing the “Make Yourself at Home” quest.
• Wait for the next daily reset after completing the “Friends and Family” quest.

After all of these conditions have been met, you will unlock the “Bigger on the Inside” quest. Speak to My Melody. She will ask you to use Strawberry Crates to expand a Visitor Cabin. Although the cost of repairing a cabin varies depending on the region of the island it’s located in, upgrade costs are always the same regardless of location. It will cost you three Strawberry Crates to upgrade the cabin of your choice in order to complete the quest. Walk up to any cabin and interact with the numbered sign next to it. There should be an “Upgrade” button. Select it and confirm you’d like to use your crates to expand it. A small animation will play, changing the outside appearance of the cabin. You can then speak to My Melody again to complete the quest.

How to Use Fewer Strawberry Crates in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

Every upgrade a Visitor Cabin receives will expand its size and add additional rooms, separated by a lobby. You can upgrade any Visitor Cabin up to five times after repairing it. Below is a list detailing the cost of each upgrade, and what it adds to the cabin:

1. 3 Crates – Lobby and 2nd Room
2. 5 Crates – 3rd Room
3. 8 Crates – Second Floor and 4th Room
4. 15 Crates – 5th Room
5. 25 Crates – 6th Room

Keen-eyed readers will notice a valuable exploit for maximizing their use of Strawberry Crates. Because cabin upgrades add rooms and cost the same no matter which cabin you’re upgrading, it’s possible to buy one cabin in a specific region, and then upgrade it for additional rooms instead of spending more on additional cabins. This is great when trying to have more rooms in areas with expensive cabin repairs, like Mount Hothead or Merry Meadow. It’s worth pointing out that My Melody’s “Handy Helper” ability doesn’t work with cabin expansion. However, if utilizing this method of using fewer Strawberry Crates, it would still be prudent to bring her along when repairing the cabin in the first place. This will save you one additional crate, which may give you enough for an extra expansion!
