The Ajarakan is a monster lured to the Basin village by the hot Firespring Festival and Everforge, so you’ll need to be ready to fight a fire when facing it in Monster Hunter Wilds. Using ice
Where do I find the Ajarakan in Monster Hunter Wilds?
The first time you meet the Ajarakan, you’re dropped into a repelling mission. Two of them will assault Azuz during the Firespring Festival, and it’ll be up to you to deal with them. After a quick fight, you’ll then finish them off.
However, after that initial story-based encounter, you’ll see them exclusively around the Basin. They’ll mainly be on the lower two levels. I found they’ll tend to avoid the one Azuz is on. Note that they’ll often be in the depths where the lava pools are, so have Cool Drinks on hand to deal with their fiery temperament and the heat.
Beating one for the first time unlocks the “Scorching Simian” Optional Quest. That lets you face one at any time.
How do I beat an Ajarakan?
Think of facing an Ajarakan as being dropped into a match with a wrestler that is frequently on fire. It’ll drop the elbow like The Rock. It’ll bodyslam the ground. It’ll enter a rage, dip into the ground to cause a pool of fire, then be all flaming and furious. A good tactic is to wait until it’s performed one of the charges or slams to the ground, then perform a few attacks while it gets to its feet again.
All weapons work equally well against it, so don’t worry about your preference working against you. As a “Fire” type foe, using a Water-based weapon will also work in your favor too. The head and arms are most susceptible to attacks, so as long as it hasn’t caused a pool of fire around it when it struck the ground, target those areas after it charges or drops. Those arms are its weak spot too, so that helps. You can also severe its tail if you attack from behind while avoiding its fire, which is good for getting the Ajarakan Tail part. (I also ended up getting Ajarakan Jewels after striking a wound in that back and rear regions a few times.)
I recommend taking advantage of the Flashflies in the Basin area, as it is susceptible to those and Flash Pods. Honestly, you can try and inflict any status effect on it. I find Paralysis and Stun most helpful. It’ll stop it from using Blastblight and Fireblight for a while.
Since the Ajarakan is pretty aggressive, expect Turf Wars when fighting one. It’s honestly a pretty good tactic to try and lure it near another monster to distract it and wear it down a bit.
What are the Ajarakan drops in Monster Hunter Wilds?
The Ajarakan Certificate is a guaranteed drop after the fight is finished. Odds are, you’ll also get quite a few Ajarakan Scales and Shells from the fight too. I noticed I only seemed to get the Ajarakan Ridge and Tail either if I broke the back or tail, though they may come up as you carve the carcass. The Ajarakan Jewel and Marrow are the rarest items. Try and go for the head for the marrow, or just fight it a bunch for that.
When it comes to equipment, it might be the most work to get an Ajarakan Helm. That’s because it needs multiple rare items like one Ajarakan Jewel, one Ajarakan Marrow, and one Ajarakan Tail in addition to the certificate. You’ll also need said jewel for the Ajarakan Mail and Ajarakan Greaves.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
