How to Find and Beat Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Doshaguma is a monster that gets teased a bit before you face it in Monster Hunter Wilds, as you’ll see it show up during the campaign ahead of a fight against it in the first chapter. It’s a bit of a brute, but the biggest danger is that it sometimes doesn’t show up alone.

Where do I find the Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds?

The Doshaguma is one of the first monsters you’ll meet that doesn’t stick to a single area. You can find it in both the Plains and Forest. I typically encountered it during the day, but it can vary. During the Fallow season, it might even team up, as shown during the campaign when you’re forced to fight a stronger “alpha” version as part of the mainline quest.

So if you want to find it in the wild, check those two spots. However, after beating it once you can take the Optional Quest “Forest Outlaw” at the Quest Counter to immediately find and fight it. It can also eventually show up in Wounded Hollow, once you get far enough into the game.

Note that eventually, after getting through Chapter 3 and into Chapter 4 of Monster Hunter Wilds and beyond, you will encounter another variant. That one tends to be limited to the Wyveria region. But it’s good to be aware there is another type.

How do I beat a Doshaguma?

The one thing I find dangerous about the Doshaguma is its pure strength. It hits hard when it attacks! It also has Minor Tremor and Weak Roar attacks that might throw you off your groove and disrupt your combos. Plus, it really likes to just charge at you and throw its weight around. Attacking from the side and back is a good idea, since going at it head-on can be trouble if it decides to just barrel down on you.

Some good things about it is that it’s susceptible to damage from certain elements, it’s generally easy to inflict any status effect on it, and the only item that doesn’t work on it is a Sonic Bomb. I like using Flash Pods and Shock Traps on it, as well as Paralysis and Stun, because then that takes away the issue of it suddenly racing toward you for a heavy hit.

Also, just in case, I recommend Dung Pods. There is always the off chance that, depending on the season and location, you might encounter a random Alpha Doshaguma or herd of them. Having a Dung Pod on-hand in the event of multiple ones lurking about (or a feisty Turf War) can be smart.

Speaking of Turf Wars, that’s another thing I noticed about Doshaguma. It almost always seemed like there’d be at least one Turf War during any Doshaguma hunt I’d take. Campaign. Optional Quest. Just happening upon one in the Plains or Forest. It likes to fight! Use that to your advantage, step back for a moment, and let the other monster it’s facing weaken it!

What are the Doshaguma drops in Monster Hunter Wilds?

For being so intimidating and treated like one of the first major challenges in the game, Doshaguma really doesn’t have too many drops. I found the rarest one, the Doshaguma Fang, even seemed like it a higher chance of dropping if I kept targeting wounds on its head and face. The Doshaguma Fur and Doshaguma Claw are both pretty common. The claws can fall from broken forelegs, while you could get fur or a Doshaguma Hide from the back and tail. You also get one Doshaguma Certificate per fight.

Keep in mind that you will need that rare Doshaguma Fang for the Doshaguma Braces, Doshaguma Coil, and Doshaguma Helm. The coil even needs two of them and a Sturdy Bone from a Bone Pile gathering point. The Doshaguma Greaves will also need a Brute Bone, if you want to make those.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
