Monster Hunter Wilds‘ Guardian Doshaguma hunt might share a lot in common with the regular Doshaguma fight, but the artificial variant has some important differences. One of them is an elemental weakness the standard form doesn’t have, which helps make the battle quicker and easier to handle. You also get different drops and access to fresh armor and weapon trees based on the Guardian Doshaguma.
Our Monster Hunter Wilds Guardian Doshaguma guide explains where to find this enhanced Doshaguma and what you get from the hunt.
Where Do I Find Guardian Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Guardian Doshaguma lives in the Ruins of Wyveria region, which you unlock automatically in chapter three, though after you complete the main story campaign, the area’s high-rank version is locked until you advance further in the post-game. Guardian Doshaguma is the target of “The Faithful Keepers” quest in the first part of chapter three.
There’s no mandatory post-game quest to unlock Guardian Doshaguma’s high-rank hunts. However, once you reach Hunter Rank 21, you can take on the optional quests “Battle with the White Doshaguma” and “Werner’s Test Run” to force an encounter with the beast.
You have a decent chance of running into Guardian Doshaguma outside of quests as well. They appear frequently in the Ruins of Wyveria’s low-rank and high-rank environments, and they seem to have no climate preference. You’ll find them during times of tranquility and inclement conditions alike, and like with regular Doshaguma, you’ll often end up with more than one in the environment at a given time.
How Do I Beat Guardian Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Guardian Doshaguma’s field guide listing is a little misleading. The “recommended elements” section includes fire, lightning, and ice, and while it’s technically true, ice is the most effective against Guardian Doshaguma. Fire and lightning are also effective, but only if you target the beast’s head with them.
A Hirabami weapon is your best bet in low-rank hunts, but by the time you unlock this fight’s high-rank version, you’ll have access to specific ice element trees for several weapons. Blunt weapons, such as the hammer or hunting horn, are the most effective for this battle, but ranged weapons and ice ammo are also useful.
Its head and front legs are where Guardian Doshaguma takes the most damage, though you can still see good results from attacking its hind legs as well.
As for battle strategy, Guardian Doshaguma behaves in much the same way as its regular variant. It relies on paw swipes, body slams, and head bashes, so don’t linger long while you’re attacking its front legs. When it rears up, move away and to the side to avoid getting caught in the aftermath of its crashing attack.
Guardian Doshaguma will, like other Guardian monsters, occasionally find a pool of Wyvern Milk and absorb it to heal any open wounds. It’s not possible to tell whether this action also restores its health, but given how much damage you can deal when you destroy a monster’s wounds, it’s worth trying to interrupt this process regardless. Set a trap, attack Guardian Doshaguma’s head, or knock it over with a weapon such as the switch axe to stop this recovery.
