How to Fish in Atelier Yumia

Fishing is arguably one of the most notorious minigames across gaming, so its appearance in Atelier Yumia, an RPG all about collecting different items, was inevitable, wasn’t it? But getting access to fishing isn’t as straightforward as you might think. In this guide for Atelier Yumia, we will explain what you need to know to start casting your fishing line into the sea.

How Do I Obtain The Lure Recipe in Atelier Yumia?

You can only start fishing once you have unlocked the lure recipe. You must reach a specific part of the storyline and complete several tasks to do this.

The first step to getting your hands on the recipe is to unlock the pioneering effort. This happens when the team clears up their first manabound area, so if you haven’t reached this part yet, simply continue playing through the main story. Once you have done this, Erhard will allow you to participate in pioneering quests in the Ligneus Region.

The pioneering effort is a list of quests you can complete in a region. If you fulfil a certain number of these tasks, you will earn rewards, like recipes and certain types of bases. Some of these tasks are straightforward, like defeating a wild blue puni or building a bed back at the workbench. When you have completed a quest tied up to the pioneering effort, return to Erhard at Ligneus Survey Base, and you will see your current progression. The quickest way to get to Erhard is by fast-travelling to the Ligneus Survey Base and heading up the stairs behind you (above is a screenshot of where you can find Erhard on the map). You will earn the lure recipe once you have completed 40% of the Ligneus Region pioneering quests.

How Do I Fish in Atelier Yumia?

Now that you have unlocked the lure recipe, you’re nearly ready to start casting your line into the great sea, but there are a few more steps you will need to follow. Fortunately, creating the lure is classified as a simple synthesis and does not require many ingredients. Here is what the recipe entails:

  • 2% Energy
  • 2 Iron
  • 3 Fiber

These materials are commonly found in the open terrain, so you should have no problem finding them. Iron can be collected by picking up stone-like materials like glacial stones, whereas fiber can be retrieved from plants such as Tall Tuan.

Remember, to open the simple synthesis menu, bring up the shortcut wheel by pressing LB and selecting “simple synthesis.” The lure will take one slot in your inventory, so make sure you have the required space.

When you arrive at a fishing spot, a prompt will appear on the screen to go fishing by pressing the Y button. Once you cast your line, you will want to wait until a white shining light appears, and then quickly press one of the face buttons on the controller. If you are successful, you will catch a fish. Most fishing spots will give you brand-new independent fish, so it’s worth casting your line whenever you find a new one on the map.
