How to Get a Civilization VII Points Victory

Civilization VII has a couple of more secret victory conditions that come into play if no one is able to win through the normal routes. One of these methods is the Civilization VII Points Victory. This can happen in especially fast matches, so it is worth knowing how to win using just certain Legacy Points alone.

Civilization VII Legacy Points, Explained

Legacy Points are what you get for pouring into one (or more) of the four key paths to victory. Those four paths are Military, Economic, Science, and Culture. Military has to do with conquering Settlements, Economic is all about resources, Science is about various projects, and Culture is about Relics, Artifacts, and the like.

As you complete the Legacy Paths for one of those four conditions, you will get Legacy Points. They each different among the three Ages as well. For instance, Military in the Age of Antiquity is all about earning Settlement Points for building or conquering towns. Get enough of these points and you will earn a Legacy Point.

How to Get a Civ VII Points Victory

The Civ VII Legacy Points Victory is one of the rarer types you will not always see in a match. This is because it is meant to be a tiebreaker in a way. The main goal is for someone to win using the four main victory paths. But if the game ends after a certain number of turns and no one completes their Legacy Paths, it then goes to tiebreakers.

It is here that the game tallies up all of your Legacy Points and the player with the most wins the match. This is not a victory type you should really aim for, though. Your best bet is to focus on a single victory condition you prefer and get as many Legacy Points that way. This way, even if you don’t have enough time to finish it, you might be able to win via points. That said, I do not recommend stretching yourself then and trying to mix and match styles like Military and Economic, if possible.

Civilization VII releases for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 11, 2025. It is currently available in Early Access.
