How to Get a Second Pet in Stardew Valley

Getting a pet turtle in this game is pretty similar to getting a second pet in the first place. What is worth noting is that, without the use of mods at least, it is not possible to make a turtle your initial pet when starting a new farm. This is because only the cats and dogs are options for your first pet.

So, what you need to do is focus on unlocking the ability to get another pet. To do this, you have to reach max friendship with your first pet. This is by petting them every day and the like. Alternatively, you can choose to not have a pet and then reach Year 2 in-game. Either way, you will then unlock the ability to get another pet.

Once you unlock the ability to get an additional pet, you will then be able to get a pet turtle in Stardew Valley. What you want to do is head to Marnie’s Ranch. Here, you can buy pet licenses for a new one. There are actually two different turtle pets you can get and each one will cost you a differing amount to purchase:

  • Turtle: 60,000g
  • Iridium Turtle: 500,000g

Yes, you read that correctly on the Iridium Turtle. In addition to having enough money to buy the pet turtle, you also want to make sure you have a Pet Bowl already set up at your farm for this new pet. If you already have a pet, you need to have a Pet Bowl for each of them.

Stardew Valley is available right now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
