To trade rare cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket, you need “Trade Tokens,” a currency obtained through discarding duplicates. This guide covers everything you need to know about obtaining Trade Tokens, including how to get them and exactly why you need them.
How do I get Trade Tokens in Pokemon TCG Pocket?
You can obtain Trade Tokens by permanently discarding duplicate cards, just like you would to obtain Flairs. To get Trade Tokens from a card, follow these steps:
- Tap the card icon on the bottom of the screen to go to “My Cards”
- Select the card you are willing to discard
- Tap “Obtain Items”
- Tap on the Trade Tokens icon
Only Pokémon cards above ♦♦♦ (Rare) and above can be turned into Trade Tokens. You also need to have at least two copies of one card before you’re able to exchange.
You can see what Rarity you’re currently able to trade by tapping the Trade Tokens icon in the Trade menu.
What are Trade Tokens in Pokemon TCG Pocket?
Trade Tokens are a currency that allows you to increase the Rarity of Pokemon Cards you can trade in Pokemon TCG Pocket. With zero Trade Tokens in the tank, the highest Rarity you can trade is ♦♦ (uncommon).
The more Trade Tokens you have, the higher the Rarity you can trade. This goes all the way up to Star ★ and ♦♦♦♦ level Rarity, which requires a whole load of Tokens.
Trade Token conversion rate
Pokémon cards can be exchanged for Trade Tokens at the following rates.
- ♦♦♦ (Rare) — 25 Trade Tokens
- ♦♦♦♦ (EX) — 125 Trade Tokens
- ★ (Full art) — 100 Trade Tokens
- ★★ (Full art EX + Trainer) — 300 Trade Tokens
- ★★★ (Immersive) — 300 Trade Tokens
- ♛ (Golden) — 1,500 Trade Tokens
Crown Rarity cards offer the highest Trade Token exchange rate, though if you have enough duplicates to be able to exchange, I’m incredibly jealous. Your best bet is likely those spare full art and EX cards you have lying around.
What Rarities can I trade in Pokemon TCG Pocket?
In Pokemon TCG Pocket, you can trade ♦, ♦♦, ♦♦♦, ♦♦♦♦, and ★ Rarity cards. That covers regular cards, uncommon cards, holos, EX cards, and full art cards that aren’t trainers or EX Pokémon.
Unfortunately, these restrictions mean you cannot trade the following categories of cards:
- Full art EX
- Full art trainers
- Immersive cards
- Golden cards
- Promo cards
Are Trade Tokens one-time use item?
It’s important to note that Trade Tokens are used when trading high-rarity cards, so use them wisely. Don’t forget that you also need Trade Stamina to trade. Currencies are so fun, right?
