To achieve the 108 Star ending and unlock the “On the Trail of a Mysterious Woman” Achievement/Trophy in Suikoden 2, you need to recruit Clive. The tricky thing is that Clive will only join your team if you approach him in a specific way — here’s how.
Before you can recruit Clive in Suikoden 2, you must have witnessed the event between Clive and Elza in Muse City. If you missed it and still have access to Muse, go up the stairs next to the Rune Shop to meet Eliza and agree to look after her packages. Head upward, speak to Clive automatically, then try to leave Muse.
As long as you have witnessed the Clive and Elza event, you can recruit Clive as soon as you unlock the boat at HQ in the main story. To begin, head to the docks at Headquarters by following these directions:
- From the main entrance (next to the tavern), head north up one screen
- Continue north to the top of the screen, then enter the stairway on the right
- Walk straight ahead into the passageway with the anchor sign
- Head down the stairs and through the passageway
- Walk north into the docks, then take your first left onto the boat
Use your boat to travel to Kuskus, which is directly east of HQ. While Kuskus is reachable on foot, youmust use your boat to travel here, or Clive won’t join you. Once you arrive in Kuskus, head south to South Window on foot. (If you don’t have it already, I highly recommend unlocking the Suiko Map.)
In South Window, speak to Clive near the entrance and select “Would you mind joining us?” When Clive says he’s too busy chasing a criminal (Elza), select “I can get to Lakewest” and he will successfully join your army! As mentioned previously, this dialogue will only appear if you’ve traveled by boat.
With Clive recruited, you will unlock the hidden “On the Trail of a Mysterious Woman” Achievement/Trophy. You’ll also be able to continue Clive’s side story, though this isn’t a requirement to keep Clive as a party member. Once you recruit him here, he’s with you for the rest of the game.
Clive’s side story in Suikoden 2
Like the previous game, Clive is the Tensyo Star and an L-range gun user. Clive has a unique side story in Sukoden 2, which requires you to reach specific points in the game at certain times.
In case you missed it, Suikoden I and II HD Remaster now features a setting that allows you to pause the “Event Timer,” allowing you to participate in Clive’s story without worrying about the time limit. However, keep in mind that this appears to affect time-based features, such as the mailbox.
Suikoden I and II HD Remaster Gate Run and Dunan Unification Wars is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
