Stallion is one of the 108 Stars of Destiny in Suikoden 2 and comes with the bonus feature of 3x battle speed when recruited. If you want to achieve the 108 Stars ending for its Achievement/Trophy and make grinding a breeze, you need to…run away? Here’s how to train for Stallion’s race and beat him at his own game.
How to recruit Stallion and Unlock 3x Speed in Suikoden 2
While you may have seen him already, you can only recruit Stallion in Suikoden 2 after the conclusion of the Two Rivers storyline. To recruit him, you must have run away from enemies a combined total of 50 times. Yes, I’m dead serious.
Walk around the overworld and select either “Let Go” or “Run Away” 50 times in battles. Both options count, though “Let Go” is the easiest method, as it’s guaranteed to work. “Let Go” appears when the enemies (or enemy) you’re facing are at a lower level than your party.
The best way to do this is to walk around a section of the overworld with weak enemies. At this stage in the game, the areas around Radat were consistently weak enough for me to let go. You can check exactly how many battles you have left to run away from by racing Stallion in Radat.
Once you’ve let go/ran from enough enemies, travel to Radat (far east from Headquarters) and speak to Stallion, the blue-haired elf sprinting around. Ask Stallion to join you and he’ll challenge you to a race. If you’ve run away from enough enemies, you will successfully recruit him.
New to Suikoden I and II HD Remaster, recruiting Stallion unlocks 3x speed in battle, making grinding for rare items, potch and XP a complete breeze. Especially when combined with the orbs from the DLC pack. When Stallion is in your party, you also travel at double speed in the overworld.
Like the previous game, Stallion is the Tensoku Star and an extremely speedy L-ranged bow user. He comes equipped with the True Holy Rune and full gear, including a pair of Winged Boots. Stallion can also unite for a Bow Attack if Ayda or Kinnison are in the party.
Suikoden I and II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
