How to See Traps

Traps are a bit tricky in this fantasy RPG from Obsidian, though their mechanics are arguably pretty simple. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a way to increase the ability to notice traps or trip wires in the Living Lands as of yet. It doesn’t seem like your stats seem to affect like it might in a series like Fallout.

As such, you have to physically be aware of your surroundings and notice a trap before you set it off. This can be difficult to manage, but you often find traps in dungeons and major quests, so be more careful in moments like that. There is a trinket you can find later in the game that negates all trap damage so they are useless, but that is much later.

How to Disarm Traps in Avowed

The goal once you find a trap in Avowed is to disarm it. How you go about this is by first noticing the trip wire for the trap. Before you trigger it, you want to get close enough that you see the prompt to disable it. You can do this by pressing the X button on controller. Disarming a trap is as easy as pressing this button and you are done.

Fortunately, this is not like some other RPGs where you have a percentage chance of disarming a trap or something like that. As long as you find the trip wire or trap before it is triggered, you are guaranteed to be able to disarm and deactivate it. Of course, this is why it pays off to keep an eye on your surroundings at all times.

Avowed is available right now for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
