Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a cozy adventure and life sim in which you can befriend various Sanrio mascots, but did you know you can also hang out with your IRL friends through online multiplayer? Starting multiplayer is simple, and it only takes a short while before you can gain access to it.

How to unlock Multiplayer in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

To unlock Multiplayer, you need to first complete the “Open the Nature Preserve” quest. To unlock that quest, you’ll need to reach Friendship Level 2 with Keroppi, as well as complete the “Power Up the Gate” quest. After you open up the Nature Preserve, you’ll get the “Friends From Afar” quest. To start it, simply speak with Keroppi, and he’ll explain to you how Multiplayer works.

How to play in Multiplayer Mode

You can start Multiplayer Mode by opening up your phone and tabbing over to the icon. It’s between Map and Collections, and resembles an abstract image of a person looking down at their phone and raising their hand to tap the screen. You’ll see two options: Invite Friend and Join Friend. To have a friend visit, or to visit a friend, you’ll need to have their code, which randomly generates every time you pull up the screen. So you can’t randomly jump into someone’s world, nor can a stranger enter yours unless you publish your friend code online or in the official Discord server.

In Multiplayer Mode, your friend can hang out with you and explore the island together. They can collect resources, talk to the Sanrio mascots, purchase items from the shops, catch critters, and complete agility courses. However, guests can’t begin or complete quests. They can only help out the host if they’re having trouble with a solo quest. As a note, until you reach a Friendship Level 15, any resources that a guest grabs does not go into the host’s inventory. So unless the host gives you permission to grab things, you should avoid doing so.

There are a lot of multiplayer-specific quests and rewards in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Friendship Tasks can range from taking selfies together to collecting items around the map. Completing these tasks can give you rewards like Friendship Beads, Emotes, and multiplayer-specific abilities. Examples of multiplayer-specific abilities include gifting items to a human player, letting them move into a Visitor Cabin, and turning them into a Fast Travel location so you can teleport to them.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is readily available on iOS, macOS, Apple TV, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC. PS4 and PS5 versions will come out in 2025.
