Stardew Valley is one of the most beloved farming sim games of all time for a reason, and part of that comes from the fact you can experience everything alongside another person(s). Co-op multiplayer is an option in Stardew Valley for all platforms, but it is worth knowing how to start and use multiplayer.
How to Play Co-op Multiplayer in Stardew Valley
There are two main ways to play multiplayer with someone: splitscreen or cooperative. Splitscreen is the easiest to get into. You just need a single copy of the game and two controllers or the like on your system to be able to play with someone else. Then you just need to create a cabin for the second player and pick “Start Local Co-op” in the menu.
On the other hand, if you opt for the other method, you will want to pick the co-op option in the main menu. Here, you can host a world and pick the settings for everything. If you are joining a multiplayer match, you need to be friends on that particular platform with that person. Then you can see their online world in the co-op menu and join it directly via friends. Alternatively, you can input their invite code.
Is There Crossplay Multiplayer?
With the Stardew Valley co-op multiplayer situation, you might be wondering if there is crossplay. At this time, there is some crossplay multiplayer, but it is a tricky situation. For the most part, every platform is stuck with only being able to play with others on that particular platform. Switch with Switch, PlayStation with PlayStation, and so on.
The catch is between PC and mobile. It is now possible for PC and mobile players to join together as long as they are on the same update version. This is the only crossplay option that is available for now. Presumably if there is a Stardew Valley account system put in place in the further, there could be the opportunity for true crossplay between all platforms.
Stardew Valley is available right now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
