The mines of Fields of Mistria are no joke. Venturing into these tunnels often requires devoting an entire day just to make it through a few floors! It takes time, but the indulgent pace you need to take with the mines synergizes well with unlocking new tiers to explore. Every twenty floors, you’ll reach a shrine holding a seal. You have to break these seals to venture deeper into the mines. Mistria’s second major update adds a whole new biome to explore, and this means another seal for you to break. Keep reading to learn how to unlock the Fields of Mistria mine Fire Seal!
How to Unlock Fields of Mistria Mine Fire Seal
Unlocking the Fire Seal is similar to unlocking the previous seals you’ve encountered. First, you need to reach level 60 of the mines. This floor houses the shrine for the Fire Seal. Walk up to the stone monument in the center of the pedestals. You will automatically inscribe the language onto some paper. Take the inscription to Juniper’s bathhouse. This will begin a cutscene, and begin the “Breaking the Fire Seal” quest. If other quests pertaining to Juniper are active when you enter the bathhouse, they may take precedence. If this happens, exit the bathhouse afterward, and go back inside to activate the Fire Seal cutscene. Juniper will provide you with the list of items that need to be placed on the pedestals at the Fire Seal shrine:
- 1 Faceted Rock Gem
- 1 Rockroot
- 1 Emerald
- 1 Sealing Scroll
Most of these are simply enough to collect. Emeralds, Rockroots, and Faceted Rock Gems are all found in the Deep Earth biome in the mines (floors 41-60.) Emeralds drop from rocks with round green protrusions sticking out of them, or from the Emerald Chunks you can sometimes find here. Faceted Rock Gems can be dug up! Use your shovel on mounds of dirt, or your pickaxe on x-shaped marks on the ground. Rockroot is forageable. It’s immediately visible, and can be harvested like any other forageable. One or two trips through the Deep Earth biome should be enough to collect these. If you don’t know what these items look like, check your quest list. The description of this quest will have an image for each of the items you need.
If you’re coming back to Fields of Mistria after the second major update, be aware that the Faceted Rock Gem and Rockroot were added with it. In other words, even if you’ve thoroughly explored the mines in the past, you’ll have to go back in to find these items. Lastly, the Sealing Scroll has its own quest attached to it, and requires an additional set of items to obtain.
How to Get the Sealing Scroll in Fields of Mistria
You and Juniper will visit Balor as part of the initial cutscene for the “Breaking the Fire Seal” quest. You’ll place a special order for the Sealing Scroll with him. You’ll need to wait a few days for Balor to contact you about the Sealing Scroll, so look for the other items in the meantime. Eventually, Balor will invite you to his room to discuss the order. He’s found a seller for the scroll, but the trade will require another set of items:
- 10 Silver Ingots
- 10 Sapphires
- 10 Emeralds
- 10 Rubies
The gemstone cost of this quest is fairly steep if you haven’t been exploring the mines. However, there’s a few ways to circumvent the mines timesink you would need to devote yourself to. At least one Sapphire drops from the large rock in front of the museum in The Narrows. This rock respawns every day, and guarantees 10 Sapphires in 10 days! Somewhat paradoxically, you can also buy gemstones from Balor’s Wagon. Balor’s shop inventory changes every day. Make sure to check what the wagon is selling at the start of a new day, and buy as many gemstones as you can!
Balor might also sell the Silver Ingots you need. Otherwise, you can find Silver Ore in the Deep Earth biome. 10 Silver Ore makes one Silver Ingot, so you’ll need 100 Silver Ore to make 10 Silver Ingots. If your Blacksmithing skill is high enough, you can use Essence to buy the Silver Expert ability from the dragon statue on your farm. This makes Silver Ingots craftable with just nine Silver Ore, reducing the total ore you need by 10.
Once you have all the gemstones and ingots, deposit them into the materials chest next to the wagon and speak to Balor. The day after you speak with him, Balor will hand over the Sealing Scroll. Head back to the Fire Seal shrine on floor 60 of the mines, interact with the stone monument, and deposit the items into it. Enjoy your cutscene; You’ve unlocked the Fire Seal, and a brand new biome for the mines!
