Heading into a rustic shop and buying items from a merchant is a traditional JRPG trope. However, Atelier Yumia has decided to flip the script, as it does not have a conventional shop system where you meander into a building and buy goodies with hard-earned cash. Instead, you will have to unlock shop trades in various regions by doing tasks. It may sound daunting, but it’s much easier than it sounds.
How Do I Unlock Shop Trading in Atelier Yumia?
As we mentioned above, when you first start your adventure, you cannot access any shop trades. However, when the team clears up their first manabound area at the Dux Lighthouse, Erhard will allow you to participate in the pioneering effort in the Ligneus Region.
Every region will have a list of tasks for you to complete. When you have fulfilled a certain percentage of the pioneering effort in that region, you will unlock different rewards, including recipes, base types and shop trades. It’s important to note that each area will have their own independent shops. This means you must unlock shop trades in each region to access all the possible shops in the game.
A lot of these tasks are best described as fetch quests, as they usually entail synthesising or collecting a specific number of items. When you have completed a task, go back to Erhard, and you can check your progress so far. Depending on where you are in the storyline, Enhard will change his location, but if you’re still at the first region, he can be found at the Ligneus Survey Base. You will unlock shop trades once you have completed 20% of the pioneering effort.
How Do I Buy Ingredients, Recipes and Blueprints in Atelier Yumia?
Once you have unlocked the shop trade feature, merchants will appear in the open environment. Sadly, none of the merchant’s locations will appear on the map, even if you have visited them before, which makes them hard to find. You will know if you have found a merchant, as they will be standing near a tablecloth on the ground. If you’re struggling to find a merchant, here are a few screenshots of some locations where you can find them.
However, this will not be a typical shop transaction, as your bartering tool will not be money but the ingredients you have collected. When you interact with the merchant, you will see they have various items on the tablecloth, with different rates accompanying them. The rates will signify their importance to the merchant. You will have to trade item(s) accumulated at the same rate for the trade to proceed.
Select the item you want to purchase from the tablecloth, and you will then be presented with your inventory. When you have picked the item(s) you would like to propose for the trade, it will tell you the current rate you are offering. When you finally reach the merchant’s desired rate and are comfortable with your chosen ingredients, proceed with the trade.
Ingredients with higher grades will be worth more. This is why unlocking the Greenhouse building will be highly beneficial, as you can replicate items you already have, making trades much easier. A small tip is to keep at least one of every item so you can replicate it in the Greenhouse.
