How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

Fields of Mistria has a great many hidden places for you to discover. It seems as though every new update adds access to special areas you couldn’t reach before. The second major update adds the Deep Woods, a heavily forested area blocked off by an entanglement of thorns. Although not very large, the Deep Woods offers significant benefits you’ll want to have sooner rather than later. Here’s how to unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria.

How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

Unlocking the Deep Wood requires you to learn a new spell, and have enough mana to use it. Luckily, all of this is tied to opening new sections of the mines. For every new seal you unlock in the mines, Caldarus will reward you with a new spell, and more mana. The spell, “Dragon’s Breath,” is given to you as a reward for unlocking the Fire Seal. The beginning of this process requires reaching floor 60 of the mines, so if you haven’t reached it yet, don’t expect to unlock the Deep Woods anytime soon. You can find a more in-depth guide on how to unlock the Fire Seal here. Once you’ve finished with the Fire Seal, unlocking the Deep Woods is super easy!

Equip Dragon’s Breath from the spell tab of your menu. This spell requires two full charges of mana to cast, and when used, sprays a cone of fire in the direction you’re facing. If you don’t have enough mana, you can only drink Mana Potions to restore one full charge each. Otherwise, you’ll need to wait for mana to recharge. You regain about a quarter of a full charge of mana per day. Don’t cast any spells for eight days, and you should have enough mana to cast Dragon’s Breath!

The entrance to the Deep Woods is on the Eastern Road, which is east of the town in the same area as Ryis and Landen’s workshop. Head East from the upper end of Mistria, and keep going East past the workshop. At the intersection, head North towards a wellspring you can heal from. To the right of this wellspring is a staircase with a bunch of thorny vines blocking your way. Cast Dragon’s Breath. No matter where you’re facing, casting the spell will turn your character towards the camera. Don’t worry, you have plenty of time to turn around and face the vines. Once you do, a small cutscene will play, and then the way to the Deep Woods will be open!

What to Find in the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

The Deep Woods is a great place for collecting wood. The trees in this area drop about two or three more pieces of wood than anywhere else, and have a chance of dropping heavy wood instead. What’s more, the Deep Woods have their own set of forageables you can find, as well as a couple of extra spawn points for more common forage. There’s a small pond you can go fishing in, and an area to the Northwest that teaches you a bit more about Mistria’s customs. Without going into spoilers, the Deep Woods also houses another unique character for you to hang-out with- and romance if you’d like!

Have fun! The Deep Woods is sure to give you some new items you can cook with. Cooking in Fields of Mistria isn’t too hard, but there’s a few details you should know about ahead of time. This area probably won’t be accessible to you until quite a few hours into the game, so why not complete some Crown Requests while you’re working through the prerequisites?

Fields of Mistria is currently available in Steam Early Access on PC.
