Assassin’s Creed Shadows carries on the series’ recent focus on the various equipment that you can collect during your adventures. While gear is typically tied to the current level you are or just above it, that gear will quickly become outdated if you haven’t unlocked the Forge in the Hideout so you can upgrade gear in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
How to Unlock the Forge
You can unlock the Forge soon after you get to the Hideout for the first time. What you want to do is complete the Way of the Blacksmith quest. This side quest is one of the first that you get once you arrive at the Hideout. It is a pretty simple quest that will take you to the nearby town of Sakai.
All you have to do is locate the blacksmith named Heiji here and convince him to come join the Hideout. Doing this will then unlock the Forge building. But you are still not done. You have to actually build the Forge from this point at your Hideout and place it somewhere to be able to access it. It will take wood and stone, which you can gather nearby or from the Port Vendors in towns.
How to Upgrade Gear in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Once you place the Forge in your Hideout in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you can then start upgrading your gear. What you want to do is head on over to the Forge itself and speak with Heiji there. You will have the option to access his shop where you can start upgrading your gear.
It will cost you Mon, but also generally some resources to be able to upgrade a piece of gear. You can upgrade any item you equip and make it to your current level in the game, up to level 60, which is the current max. This is how you essentially keep a piece of gear you like the appearance of or stats of constantly able to be used for Naoe and Yasuke throughout the story.
