Japan Airlines revealed that it is working with Bandai Namco Holdings on Mobile Suit Gundam collaborations as part of promotions for the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan. The companies are launching a JAL passenger plane and a restaurant bus with unique Gundam liveries, as well as RX-78 Gundam model kits with exclusive themed liveries.
The liveries for both the real airplane and bus will feature the franchise’s titular Mobile Suit Gundam, along with the Expo 2025 mascot, Myaku-Myaku. Japan Airlines is holding the first launch of the plane with the Gundam livery on March 3, 2025—the same day it held the press presentation. Meanwhile, Willer Across will manage the restaurant bus and bring it to various locations across Japan from March 2025 until October 2025.
As for the Gunpla model kits, there will be two different types available in this collaboration. The first one will be a kit of the RX-78-2 Gundam with the white-and-red Japan Airlines livery. People must first register their interests via inflight Wi-Fi to gain access to the kit’s purchase page for up to three days.
The second kit will be a new version of the RX-78F00/E Gundam, which the Bandai Namco group designed specifically for Expo 2025. This special kit will come with red Japan Airlines decals, but it will only be available by purchasing JAL Dynamic Packages that combine domestic flight tickets with pre-determined hotel lodgings and tour plans.
Gundam will not be the only Japanese subculture franchise to have a presence at the 2025 World Expo. The Pokemon Company and Niantic will also stage Pokemon GO events that will be available at the venue for the whole duration of the Expo.
The collaboration between Japan Airlines and Mobile Suit Gundam will appear to help promote the 2025 World Expo, which will take place in Osaka, Japan, from April 13, 2025, until October 13, 2025.
