In Taiko no Tatsujin: Dororon! The Great Yokai Battle, Wada-don goes ghost hunting around Japan. His quest begins in Iga Village where he can talk to townsfolk. Namco Bandai designed a classic RPG look for this mode and even added random battles.

When Wada-don leaves town monsters can attack him. Menus don’t pop up for fights, though. Taiko no Tatsujin: Dororon! The Great Yokai Battle has drum battles where players hit the touch screen drum to hit monsters like the kappa. Taking a cue from Dragon Quest, textboxes tell players how much damage they did. After each fight, Wada-don gains experience and can level.

So, if you’ve been dreaming of a drumming RPG keep an eye out for Taiko no Tatsujin: Dororon! The Great Yokai Battle. The game comes out in Japan tomorrow.
