Using the Virtual Game Card system, you will be able to transfer a digital game to another Nintendo Switch device. However, you must have an online connection and have registered the two devices locally. Afterwards, you will be able to “eject” the virtual cartridge from one device, and then transfer it to another to play. While it appears you are limited to linking two devices this way, there is also a feature that will allow for lending games to other accounts linked as a family group.

Other announcements from the March 2025 Nintendo Direct include a new Rhythm Heaven game titled Rythmn Heaven Groove and a new gameplay trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

The Nintendo Switch Virtual Game Cards system is expected to be rolled out as part of a system update some time in late April 2025. It is confirmed to work with various Nintendo Switch consoles available worldwide.
