Phantasy Star Series Vtuber Popona Will Graduate in March 2025

Popona, the official Vtuber under Sega who has also been primarily promoting the company’s Phantasy Star series, has announced that she will graduate at the end of March 2025. She first broke the news in a stream titled “Important notification [for everyone.]” Shortly afterward, Sega published an official statement on the Vtuber’s social media account.

Popona made her debut in November 2018 to help promote the mobile game Idola: Phantasy Star Saga ahead of its imminent launch in Japan. She continued appearing on both the game’s Twitter account and YouTube channel during its lifespan.

In recent years, Popona has been more closely tied to Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, ever since she received an appointment as an official Vtuber for the PC and console online game in February 2022. This appointment also helped the character’s retention, as Idola was shut down in Japan in January 2022. Sega later released Popona’s avatar parts, along with those from Hololive Production Vtubers, when it held the first-ever crossover event dedicated to New Genesis in August 2022.

Popona’s career did not just stay with the Phantasy Star series, as Sega promoted her to become the official Vtuber for the whole company in June 2023. This promotion enabled her to promote Sega games outside of the Phantasy Star series. She also appeared in a live concert video at Sega’s booth during Tokyo Game Show 2024.

Popona will hold her Vtuber graduation live concert on March 31, 2025. Sega will afterward close the Vtuber’s channel membership and BOOTH web store a month later, on April 30, 2025.
