Nintendo and The Pokemon Company revealed the first gameplay trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A during the latest Pokemon Presents Showcase. The game will come out for the Nintendo Switch on late 2025 and the three Pokemon starters are Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile.
The game is set in Lumiose City in the Kalos Region, while the city is undergoing a high-tech redevelopment plan. Unlike Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the game seems to be set in the present and after the events of Pokemon X and Y. The latest footage showcased various characters, like the protagonist’s new friend and ally Urbain or Taunie (depending on gender,) the hotel concierge AZ and his Eternal Floette. Additionally, the CEO of redevelopment head Quasartico Inc, Jett, and her secretarie Vinnie were shown.
Combat will play differently than in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, with an active turn-based system where each Pokemon move is assigned to a face button and has a cooldown after using it. Lumiose City has plenty of Wild Zones set around where both human and Pokemon can co-exist in harmony, and players can capture new creatures.
