Data East Arcade Collection for Wii heads to stores today and more Data East games are in the pipeline. Over Twitter, the Data East games account said “We are working on several titles for 2010, just maybe…”
G-Mode, a mobile games provider in Japan, purchased the rights for many Data East titles including Burgertime, Joe & Mac, and the somewhat infamous Fighter’s History after Data East went bankrupt. After acquiring the Data East catalog G-Mode made Cobra Command and Magical Drop Touch for iPhones.
Licensing is also part of G-Mode’s strategy since they are “looking for Content Companies to help revive the once ever popular Data East Games.” A remake of Toki and a new Joe & Mac game from Golgoth Studio are in the works. It’s unclear if the tweet is in reference to those or other Data East games. There’s only so much you can say in 140 characters or less.
