Should You Accept The DLC Pack in Suikoden I and II HD Remaster?

As a thank you to dedicated fans, pre-ordering Suikoden I & II HD Remaster rewards players with a special “DLC pack” in both games. The items and potch in the pack offer a fantastic head start, but what exactly do these items do, and is the pack worth claiming?

What’s included in the Suikoden I & II HD Remaster DLC pack?

In both Suikoden and Suikoden 2, the DLC pack contains:

  • 57,300 potch
  • Fortune Orb: Doubles the amount of experience earned.
  • Prosperity Orb: Doubles the amount of potch earned.

“Potch” is the main currency of all mainline Suikoden games, and starting some extra from the very beginning isn’t anything to sneeze at. For comparison, players typically begin with 1,000 potch in Suikoden I and 200 in Suikoden II. That said, enemies also drop a significant amount of potch when defeated.

The Fortune Orb and Prosperity Orb, which double a character’s EXP and money gains, respectively, don’t go into effect immediately. Instead, you must bring these to a Rune Master for a party member to equip and benefit from it.

How to use the Fortune and Prosperity Orb

To use the Fortune Orb or Prosperity Orb, visit a Rune Master. Here, you can ‘attach’ the Rune inside the orb to a party member. You can also remove it and place it back into the orb for another character to use.

In Suikoden, there’s a Rune Master in the easternmost shop in Gregminster, the game’s first location. Unfortunately, the main character of Suikoden can’t equip either Rune, so you’ll need to give them to other party members instead.

In Suikoden 2, your first Rune Shop will likely be Muse, which is comparatively later in the game than Suikoden, but still close to the beginning.

Are the Fortune and Prosperity Orbs exclusive to the DLC pack?

Didn’t pre-order? Don’t worry! The Fortune Orb and Prosperity Orb, and their respective runes, can be earned in Suikoden and Suikoden 2 without owning the DLC pack.

Should you accept the DLC pack?

The DLC Pack for Suikoden I and II is a nice little bonus that can save you some time on early game grinding. In the grand scheme of things, the potch included in the pack isn’t a massive amount (especially in Suikoden I) and neither orb is particularly overpowered.

Whether you accept the pack or not is entirely up to personal preference. If you want to skim some grinding and get into the adventure, then accepting the pack is worth it. If not, you can safely ignore the offer.

Does accepting the DLC pack lock you out of Achievements?

Despite giving you a slight early advantage, accepting the DLC pack does not impact your ability to earn Achievements/Trophies in Suikoden or Suikoden 2.

Suikoden I and II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
