Your first visit to the major city of Paradis in Avowed is cut short with the main story quest “An Untimely End.” This particular quest sees you — spoiler alert for those who haven’t started it yet — seemingly die. Except, you do live in the end. Your job is to explore the city and find the person who killed you. But should you kill your killer Ygwulf in the end in Avowed?
An Untimely End Choices, Explained
”An Untimely End” is a fairly long main story quest, especially for this early in the adventure, but a pretty straightforward one at the same time. You get everything: a little bit of murder mystery, city exploration, a couple of fights, and even some dungeon action. The key point of this otherwise straightforward quest, though, comes at the end.
Once you reach the end of an “An Untimely End,” you finally meet up with your killer: Ygwulf. You have three options at this point, which I would consider to be the first major story choice you get in the RPG. The first option you have is good old fashioned revenge, which involves eliminating Ygwulf and the rebels that are with him.
The second option you have is to spare him and let him walk away. This will, of course, make a lot of people in the city quite angry with you. Finally, you go the execution route and have Ygwulf face justice by being publicly executed.
Should You Kill Ygwulf in Avowed?
Now that you know your options in Avowed’s “An Untimely End,” it is up to you to determine whether or not you should kill Ygwulf. This will come down to personal preference and there is no wrong answer. That said, if you are stuck, I actually suggest going with either the execution route or vengeance one. Execution is a neat middle ground that works well without making too many people angry with you. Well, except for the rebels.
On the other hand, revenge is a challenging boss route but it comes with an incredible reward. Take out Ygwulf and you get the Blackwing Armor as a reward. You can’t get this impressive set of armor any other way, so I am, personally, partial towards this choice.
Avowed is available right now for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
