Supergiant Games recently took to social media network Bluesky to reassure players that its team didn’t use any generative AI (GenAI) in Hades 2. The developer also stated that it didn’t re-cast any of the actors playing its characters, and that it supports the ongoing SAG-AFTRA video game strike.
You can read the full statement on the studio’s Bluesky profile. To start, it talked about how important actors are in breathing “life and humanity” into its projects, and that it offers the “strongest AI protections in the industry” because of how irreplaceable voice actors are. It reiterated that it didn’t use GenAI in any content in Hades 2. None of Supergiant Games’ games were “subject to SAG-AFTRA contracts for a variety of reasons,” and it supports anyone who needed to pause working due to the ongoing strike. It also wishes the strike well.
Many of the replies to Supergiant Games’s statement have been hostile. A lot of people take issue with the general statements like the “strongest AI protections in the industry” and the “variety of reasons” it didn’t use SAG-AFTRA contracts before. Others have pointed out that complications arise due to Hades II having some voice actors who wouldn’t be in a union, as their primary work isn’t voice acting.
Hades II is in early access on the Windows PCs and macOS.
