Famitsu shared the latest video game software and hardware sales figures from the week of March 16 to March 22, 2020 which included the debut of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
As expected, the #1 seller is Animal Crossing: New Horizons which hit a whopping 1,880,626 in sales for its opening week in Japan. Not only did it top Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s debut of 1.22 million units, but it also surpassed Pokemon Sword & Shield‘s debut of 1.36 million to take the title of the best debut for a Nintendo Switch game. Last week’s top-seller Nioh 2 followed at #2 with 26,140 units sold for PlayStation 4. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX charted at #3 with 21,954 units sold for the Nintendo Switch.
In hardware sales, the power of Animal Crossing sales was at a full display with 129,473 Nintendo Switch units and 263,103 Switch Lite units for a combined total of 392,576 units sold. The PlayStation 4 sold 11,156 units plus an additional 4,237 PS4 Pros to combine for 15,393 PS4 consoles sold in the week.
