Final Fantasy III on PSP didn’t sell very many copies at all, when it released in Japan last week. The updated PSP port of the Nintendo DS (and iOS) game sold close to 45,000 copies in its first week.

That’s an incredibly low number for any mainline Final Fantasy game—even an old one—but it isn’t very surprising, considering that the original version sold over 1 million copies on the DS, which means a lot of people already owned the game and likely had no interest in buying it again.

While Final Fantasy III took the #1 spot for the week, #3 went to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, published by Spike Chunsoft in Japan, with about 20,700 copies sold. The other notable release for the week was LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, which sold close to 6,000 copies.
