Last week, Japan had plenty of new releases with the major one being Gundam Breaker 3, followed by Atelier Shallie Plus, Haikyu!! Cross Team Match! and several other titles. Media Create provides the video game software and hardware sales data from the week of February 29 through March 6, 2016.

The best-selling software of the week goes to Gundam Breaker 3, which saw 74,639 units moved on its first week for PlayStation Vita and another 66,580 units on PlayStation 4 for a total of 141,219 across the two platforms, with both taking the #01 and #02 spots.

As a comparison to previous games from the series, Gundam Breaker 2 sold 123,720 copies (66,532 PS3/57,188 PS Vita) back in December 2014, and the first Gundam Breaker sold 200,564 copies on PS3 on its debut week back in June of 2013. While the third installment didn’t reach the whopping numbers of the very first title, it outsold the second by almost 20k copies, which isn’t too shabby.

Haikyu!! Cross Team Match! managed to take the #03 spot, which isn’t too surprising when you consider the series’ popularity, but those are fairly good numbers for a low-budget and non-action title from Bandai Namco, and also one of the 3DS, but it’s still much lower than its previous title, Haikyu!! Tsunage! Itadaki no Keshiki!! (2014) which saw 43,839 copies sold on 3DS for its debut.

The next note-worthy title is Atelier Shallie Plus, the PS Vita version of the PlayStation 3 RPG, at the #04 spot after having sold 19,693 copies in its debut week. Here’s how it stacks against the other Atelier Plus games that were made for PS Vita in recent history:

  • Atelier Totori Plus (2012)—27,651
  • Atelier Meruru Plus (2013)—25,095
  • Atelier Ayesha Plus (2014)—11,663
  • Atelier Escha & Logy Plus (2015)—15,778

As for other new releases last week in Japan, we had Is the Order a Rabbit? Wonderful Party! for PS Vita at #06 with 13,458 copies sold on its first week. Life is Strange debuted on PS4 as well, landing on the #08 spot with 12,111 copies, and Doraemon: Shin Nobita no Nihon Tanjou finished #13 with 7,433 copies.

There was an interesting spike in PlayStation Vita hardware sales of almost 12k more than last week. Perhaps this would have to do with a mix between Gundam Breaker 3 and Atelier Shallie Plus. What’s even more interesting is that the Xbox One got a huge boost going from 60 units sold the week prior to 490 units.
