Last week, Japan got a big release with the Yakuza Studio-developed action game Hokuto ga Gotoku on PS4 along with The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel I: Kai, and Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of March 5 through March 11, 2018.

The top title of the week is Hokuto ga Gotoku with a whopping 123,116 units sold on PS4 in its debut to dethrone Monster Hunter: World for #1 of the week. It might not have reached the 200,000-plus we see from the Yakuza series by the same developers, but it did exceptionally well for a title based on Fist of the North Star nonetheless.

At #2 we have Monster Hunter: World which sold 25,382 units on PS4 and is currently sitting at 1,954,272 units sold through retail in Japan. Splatoon 2 is back at #3 with 22,162 units sold on Nintendo Switch. Following are three more Switch titles with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #4 with 17,329 units sold, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at #5 with 11,611 units sold, and Super Mario Odyssey at #6 with 11,043 units sold in the week.

As for other new releases in the top-20, we have The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel I: Kai –Thors Military Academy 1204- at #7 with 10,965 units sold on PS4 and Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition at #10 with 6,814 units sold on PS4.

In hardware sales, the PS4 sold 14,251 units and the PS4 Pro sold 14,112 units for a combined total of 28,363 units between the two for the PlayStation 4 family. The Nintendo Switch was the top-selling console with 50.5% of all console sales in the week with 45,084 units sold. Going by Media Create’s data, the Nintendo Switch has now sold 3,846,717 units since its launch in March 3, 2017.
