<< How to read and understand sales

Following Spring break, the start of the new school term is upon Japan, and so hardware and software sales across the board have seen a drop. Last week marked the beginning of this slow period, and the only notable release was the PlayStation 4 port of Dark Souls II.

Since there isn’t much to talk about, regarding last week specifically, let’s talk about this period of the year in general. Retail chain Tsutaya reports that the Nintendo 3DS in particular is taking a rather big hit during this slow period, as a good chunk of the 3DS’s userbase consists of school kids. That having been said, they feel sales are holding up favourably compared to the same point last year, particularly since 2014 was the year that the consumption tax hike took place in Japan.

While no major games were released in Japan last week, one title of note is coming up this Thursday, which we’ll see reflected in next week’s software sales chart. That game is Style Savvy 3, and Tsutaya expects it to do well. Style Savvy has a tendency of seeing long-lasting sales over lengthy periods of time, and the game appeals to both younger girls as well as women in their 20s. Pre-orders are reportedly going well, too. We’ll see how it does in next week’s sales column.

And with that, the top-20 software sales chart for last week is as follows:
