Last week, Japan saw the release of a few notable titles but it was a big week for Koei Tecmo with the launch of their all-star title Musou Stars as well as Gust’s magical girl RPG Blue Reflection. Here’s the latest from Japanese sales tracker Media Create with a look at software and hardware sales data from the week of March 27 through April 2, 2017.

At the top of the chart we have Monster Hunter XX with 127,721 units sold on Nintendo 3DS. The game may not have lived up to Capcom’s expectations of selling 2 million in March, but its performance definitely hasn’t been shabby. With titles such as Monster Hunter XX and the upcoming Fire Emblem Echoes, we expect to still see some more life for the 3DS in the first half of the year.

#2 goes to Musou Stars with 40,368 units sold on PS4. Its PS Vita version charted at #6 with 17,866 units for a combined total of 54,218 between the two versions. Placing #2 with all other big names is pretty impressive for the all-star title, but the total sales figure isn’t something to write home about for Koei Tecmo, especially after considering the amount of marketing it got and its usage of popular characters from across its many franchises.

Next up, we have Blue Reflection at #3 on PS4 with 34,592 units and #8 on PS Vita with 13,850 units sold for a combined total of 48,442 between the two. Now, this is a different situation from Musou Stars, as it is a new IP (with new faces), and these aren’t bad numbers to show for that. To put things into perspective, Gust’s previous main Atelier game in Atelier Firis debuted with 43,525 units between PS4 and PS Vita. Blue Reflection’s debut also did better than Atelier Shallie’s 43,744. Perhaps Gust won’t “die without Atelier” as they’ve previously mentioned with a tongue in cheek.

As far as other new titles go, Mario Sports Superstars made its debut at #4 with 32,416 units sold on Nintendo 3DS. 5pb’s Re:Zero –Starting Life in Another World- Death by Kiss placed #9 with 11,762 units sold on PS Vita and #17 with 6,331 units sold on PS4 for a combined total of 18,093 units sold. Not bad numbers for a visual novel game, but not great considering that it’s based on the popular Re:Zero series. Perhaps it would’ve performed a lot better had the game released last year when the anime’s hype train was going full force. And finally, Chaos;Child: Love Chu Chu!! released with 6,240 units sold on PS Vita to take #18. Its PS4 version ended up not charting in the top-20.

On the hardware front, numbers remained mostly the same with a small decline across the board, especially for Switch going from 78k to 45k, but that probably has more to do with stock shortage than anything, so it’s difficult to give it a proper analysis for the time being. That said, the Nintendo Switch has now sold 564,012 units to date in Japan, according to Media Create’s data.
